The conservativeness of Hanji is a key characteristic that allows continuance of artistic value. With natural texture and a feeling of vitality, allowing to attain a beauty that cannot be seen from existing materials, would be an unique pride of Jeonju Hanji.

  • Gapyung Hanji
    A traditional Hanji manufacturing company named "Jangji Bang" is operating at Cheongpyung-Myun, Gapyung, Gyunggi province. "Jangji Bang" os owned and operated by Jang family has been carried on for 4th generation with the last successor name Mr. Sung Woo Jang. The 3rd successor, In 2010, Mr. Yong Hoon Jang has appointed as a Master Craftsman of Hanji, an important intangible cultural asset number 117. "Jangji Jang" manufactures and exports over 200 different types of Hanji including a white traditional Hanji, Patterned Hanji, Embossed and thick paper called "Manmulsang Ji", Holed paper named "Misang Ji", persimmon tannin dyed paper called "Gammul Ji", and lacquer varnished paper called "Otchil Ji".
  • Goesan Hanji
    Shinpoong Hanji from Goesan is made with Cham paper mulberry from the central inland region and natural spring water that makes color, clearness and gloss of Hanji and earned a reputation as Hanji with natural material. Cold water prevents propagation of microbes and makes Hanji stiff by tightening fibers. Over 200 types of Hanji, including a white traditional Hanji, Patterned Hanji, Embossed and thick paper called "Manmulsang Ji", Holed paper named "Misang Ji", persimmon tannin dyed paper called "Gammul Ji", and lacquer varnished paper called "Otchil Ji", are manufactured and export to neighboring countries.
  • Munkyung Hanji
    Located at Naesu-Ri, Nongan-Myun, Munkyung, Kyungnam province nearby Mungyeongsaejae, the most suitable area to manufacture Hanji with deep valley and clean stream. Dak paper mulberry are locally grown and used as white bark after process. Mainly manufactures writing & painting paper, folk painting paper, book paper and rubbing paper.
  • Andong Hanji
    Manufactures Soon Hanji, has an excellent absorptiveness and evaporative character, through traditional method by using locally grown paper mulberry together with an expert with a thoroughly professional mentality. Andong Hanji is equipped with 24 sheeting facilities in a total area of 13,200 ㎡. Pursues a quality guaranty by implementing a policy of declaring producer name. Paper mulberry are grown from Uiseong, Yeocheon and Andong, and produces dark and white barks. Manufactures about 70 different kinds of Hanji including windows & doors paper, Whasun Ji (writing & painting paper), Soon Ji , Baejup Ji (backing paper) and Jangpan Ji (flooring paper). Also pursues R&D to reproduce Whaumseokkyung (ancient Buddhist scriptures) rubbing paper, Hanji for Youngin copy of Tripitaka Koreana at Haein Temple, and Hanji for Inkyung of Shilla baekji mookseo daebang kwanbul whaum kyung (ancient Buddhist scriptures).
  • Wonju Hanji
    The characteristic of Wonju Hanji is various colored Hanji, and mainly used for craft goods. Unlikely other craft goods, Hanji crafts goods were used by working class people and well present simplicity. The reason for Wonju Hanji gained such a fame is excellent quality of paper mulberry being grown from the central inland region, and paper mulberry are grow naturally from mountains, fields, embarkments and unused areas of Wonju. In addition, other than soil condition, pure and clean water quality also displays Wonju Hanji's strong and tough character. In 1985, a monk Yong Dam has reproduced 7 to 8 kinds of traditional Hanji and supplied to be used to make copies of Jikjishimkyung and Wangohcheonchookgookjeon (ancient Buddhist scriptures) housed in the National Museum of France. Hanji manufactured in 1985 from Wonju has attained a international quality certification in October 2002, and certified to be last for 700 years by Korea Industrial Advancement Administration.
  • Uiryeong Hanji
    Jangpan Ji (flooring paper) made from Uiryeong even supplied to Seoul. Uiryeong used called as Jangham Hyun during Shilla dynasty and used to governed by the officer dispatched from a central government during the Yi dynasty era. "Make Chun Ji and offered for So Ji during month of January and February, make Bangpoong Ji and prepare bridal chamber at Fall season". This is a part of local folk song. As it can be assumed that "Cheon Ji" and "Bangpoong Ji" referred to kinds of Hanji, Uiryeong always considered as the biggest producer of Hanji. Moreover, paper and its raw material "Dak" are described in a local speciality list of Uiryeong of "Donggookyeojiseungram" (ancient geographic guide prepared in 1457), and used called as Uiryeong paper or Shinban paper among vendors.
  • Jeonju Hanji
    Jeonju Hanji used to be an offering to palace for several hundred years from mid Goryeo dynasty to the late Chosun dynasty, and used to prepare diplomatic documents during Chosun dynasty. Hanji production has flourished in Jeonju area due to abundant paper mulberry grow in surrounding areas of Jeonju. Since production of paper mulberry directly effects the production of Hanji, cultivation of paper mulberry has institutionalized since Goryeo dynasty to require all local governments to cultivate a certain volume of paper mulberry. In current time, with paper mulberry cultivation promotion policy, many paper mulberry are naturally grow from mountains and fields of Gui and Imsil. Resulted by clean water with less iron content, Hanji made from paper mulberry in Jeonju has excellent glossy, conservativeness and absorptiveness.
